My Process with Making Artwork with Clients
The Accepted Sketch to Final Book Cover Design for Clients
For each booking, I send a form at the start of the chosen month. The questions I ask give details and insights into what the story needs to connect to readers, and from that a sketch is made.
All of my work is hand illustrated, in digital painting programs without any use of AI at any step of the process.
My sketches range from a bit more loose to tighter, as sometimes, I like to mould a design a bit more as it goes. Once a sketch is decided upon, it moves to finalization. You can see the finalized book covers next to their sketches below.
This is where it gets a bit fancier. I work on rendering the artwork, and tightening the typography.
Next, I create and build up the artwork, bit by bit, all by hand with lots of little details.
Finally, the print wrap is made in all needed formats.. This is my favorite part!
After it is all done, things go to the magical printer where once done, a lovely book is within your hands.
Once the cover design is finished, I send over files a number of files that allow for a seamless publishing process. Other additional items like wraps, edges, chapter breaks, or foiling can be added - with printing done by printers the client chooses. Should a book need to be later traditionally published, I am always happy to discuss the licensing further.
